Old Movies : Gangsta Flicks : New Jack City (1991)

Are you a fan of Wesley Snipes?  I've been a fan ever since he made an appearance in the Michael Jackson video “Bad”. Who knew a short part in a music video with the late King of Pop would lead him to a successful acting career? The video was released in 1987. He was very convincing as a scary street thug in that music video. No surprise then that he ended up being cast as a ruthless drug kingpin in the 1991 film “NewJack City” (watch trailer). In 2016, the film celebrated its 25th anniversary. By my rules, this qualifies as an “old movie”.

What kind of movies do you like?

Do you like films where the bad guy is sort of a good guy and you’re confused as to whether he should be punished or congratulated? Set free, even though he committed unpardonable crimes, or put in jail where violent criminals are supposed to be?

OR

Do you like to watch movies where there is absolutely no question who the REAL BAD GUY is and you have to watch that movie to The End to see if he never pays for his crimes and gets to walk off into the sunset or if TRUE JUSTICE IS SERVED? You’re like … they better get that dirty rotten creep and bury him the in the jailhouse!!

If Number 2 is your kind of movie, then you need to watch New Jack City.

Have you watched this movie?  Then you know the answer to this trivia question.

Which scripture was often quoted in “New Jack City”.
  • “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
  • “You reap what you sow.”
  • “Joy cometh in the morning.”

Goodfellas: REMASTERED - Ending Scene | My Tribute to Ray Liotta (1954-2022)

I am in the habit of checking my Twitter account every day. It is usually the first online in the morning. I don't use Twitter as my reliable news source. But every once in a while they will tweet a bona fide fact about a current event that blows me away like the death of Ray Liotta (pronounced "Lee-oh-ta"). Only 67 years old.

I once heard him say in an interview that he was adopted. ("Due to extreme poverty, the biological parents abandoned Ray immediately after his birth. ..." ~  Source)  That me think: So? Is he really Italian or was he just raised Italian? I know.  It's a stupid thought. But hey! Don't we all think stupid thoughts? No matter his biological heritage, it looks like his parents, Mary and Alfred Liotta, raised him to be a real good guy; not a fictional "Goodfella". Although ... I must say that he played the part of a gangster quite well. He was cast as Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's movie "GoodFellas" (1990). In my humble opinion, it's his most memorable role.  It's a cult classic and won 6 Academy Awards.
