Classical Music - Non-European Composers

Ever find a music blog or website that is so good it's hard to tear yourself away? Found one! Berussagroup® (berussamusicart.com) The wide range of information on various singers, musicians, composers, etc. could keep you busy all day if you have some leisure time.

This site led me to a classical composer and answered my question. I wanted to know if anybody knew any famous non-European (or Non-Western) classical music composers. I was wondering about people during the same time period as Mozart or Beethoven; however, this gentleman is a modern composer: Yuhki Kuramoto (born 1951). Most of the music he composes is for the piano. Still looking for non-European classical music composers.  But this is a start.

Can you recommend others?

Childhood Memories : Favorite TV Shows and Entertainers: Comedian Red Skelton

When I was a child, some kind person gave our family a TV set. We couldn't afford to buy one. Television was the Internet back in my day. A technological marvel and with it you could reach the world! If you grew up in my generation then you probably had certain shows you watched religiously. One of the shows that I never missed was "The Red Skelton Show". I loved that show! I loved that man! I loved it when he used to say “Good night and may God bless”. I especially loved the character Freddie the Hobo. I found a quote today that made me wonder. I had never thought Red Skelton in any other light than a successful (wealthy) comedian; a popular but humble celebrity who everybody loved. I couldn't imagine him as a man who struggled and had a hard life. Maybe that's why the hobo character was so easy for him to play. Maybe it was him. This quote makes me see him in a brand new light and now I admire and like him even more! "I left home because I was hungry." ~ Red Skelton (1913 - 1997) ( via @BrainyQuote )

Movie: Film Noir: Impact (1949)

I really enjoy a lot of old movies that can easily be found on YouTube. I like mysteries, but especially the genre that is called "film noir".   One such old movie is called "Impact", released in 1949. What I liked was the way the court case played out. If you haven't watched the movie I don't want to spoil the ending. If you like vintage film noir drama you'll probably like this movie.

Recommended Documentary: Hollywood Heaven: Tragic Lives, Tragic Deaths

Watch a documentary on IMDb called “Hollywood Heaven: Tragic Lives, Tragic Deaths”. I know it sounds morbid but it’s about Hollywood stars that we loved, the sad lives they lived and how they died. They did such a good job keeping their miserable lives a secret, everybody was shocked when they passed away. Most people know about Marilyn Monroe but there are a lot of actors and actresses that I liked but I did not really know how they passed away.

They started off the program with the life and death of the legendary silent film actor Rudolph Valentino (1914 - 1926) aka "The Sheik". Of course, he is before my time. But I had no idea that he died at the age of 31. Complications that developed after he underwent surgery. I had always heard the story about that mysterious lady in black who always put flowers on his grave. She did it every year up until 1951. Folks have speculated about who she might be, but she was not positively identified. I guess she will forever be the “mysterious lady in black”.

It’s an interesting documentary. If you have not already seen, you should add it to your watch list.

Music Lovers: Spotlight on Vanessa Williams

Remember Vanessa Williams? 1st African-American Miss America who had to give up her crown like the next day to the 1st runner up who also conveniently happened to be an African-American. Ms. Williams was Miss New York and the other girl whose name nobody really remembers was Miss New Jersey. Ms. Williams had to relinquish her crown when nude photos of her were published in Penthouse. Booo! Booo!! Whatever! That contest was rigged anyway. That's my opinion and you're not going to change it with facts.

Anyway … after all the brew ha ha died down, the young lady had gotten married and her husband … at the time … was instrumental in helping her get an album released.  Her comeback video was The Right Stuff (1988).  The girl has talent.  She wouldn't stay down!  Kudos to her!  She has stayed busy professionally singing and acting.  She was even invited to perform at the Miss America 2016 pageant.  In her personal life, she became a mother of 4 and has been married 3 times.  As of the date of this post, she is in her late 50s, but she still looks fabulous!  Even though she has starred in many films and TV series, I enjoy her singing.  My favorite song is "Save the Best for Last".

What's she been doing lately?
