In the late 60s my life was changed completely. I was introduced Cuban culture, traditions, history, art, music, etc. and to be perfectly honest, I really liked the “flavor”. I enjoyed a style of dancing called Salsa. Rather, I enjoyed watching others do salsa dancing. Me? Dance? I have 2 left feet. LOL.
‘Salsa’ is a 1970’s marketing term coined by New York City music publishers. Their goal was to package the many musical genres popular in Latin America for a US market. The term ‘Salsa’ allowed a single comprehensive grouping on the record shelves. Salsa’s original musical genres, all native to Cuba, centered primarily around son montuno and mambo, together with guaracha, charanga, chachachá, and guaguanco.
