Music: Ultimate Guitar Hero: Carlos Santana

Carlos Santana: Ultimate Guitar Hero

Jingle Jangle Jungle is a fabulous music entertainment blog that publishes interesting tidbits about music, artists, and the stories behind them.

Per JJJ: “ … the sound of Carlos Santana is one of the world’s best-known musical signatures. …” (Quote Source)
My additional remarks to that succinct summation of the illustrious career of this musical genius, who is the ultimate guitar hero by my assessment, are:
Carlos Santana will never die in the music industry. His music style is eternal. Long after his has departed planet earth , people will still be falling in love to the sound of the guitar played by Carlos Santana. Have heard some of his admirers say he holds his guitar like he holding a woman. Younger artists still bow to him like he’s the god of the guitar. Can’t you imagine these singers and musicians kneeling to him as they beg him to collaborate with them?

Use This Fun Tool to Stroll Down Your Music Memory Lane

Found this tool via StumbleUpon (now Mix.com).  You can find music that takes you back to your childhood.  It's called “The Nostalgia Machine”?  If you're like me and often share music for #TBT or #throwbackThursday this tool was made for you.

To get you started you are prompted to pick a childhood year.
'OK! I'll play along. I come from the generation that didn't have the Internet. We listened to music on vinyl records and if we dared scratch a record, on purpose or by accident, our parents took money out of our allowance to pay for damaged goods!
Go ahead! Try and fool me!!'

So I picked a year. I couldn't believe it!! Magnificent throwbacks from back in my day! Such wonderful memories.
Here are some (not all) of what showed up for the year I picked. It was great music from one of the best years of my life!  :)
I'm like: 'I can't believe it! I remember all these songs!!'
● Archie Bell & the Drells - Tighten Up
● Aretha Franklin - Think
● Bee Gees - I've Gotta Get a Message to You
● Hugh Masekela - Grazing in the Grass
● Jerry Butler - Hey, Western Union Man
● José Feliciano - Light My Fire
● Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - You're All I Need to Get By
● Mason Williams - Classical Gas
● Otis Redding - (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay
● Paul Mauriat - Love is Blue
● Richard Harris - MacArthur Park
● Simon & Garfunkel - Scarborough Fair/Canticle
● Sly & the Family Stone - Dance to the Music
● The Beatles - Hey Jude; Revolution
● The Delfonics - La-La (Means I Love You)
● The Rascals - People Got to Be Free

If you tell me you remember them too, I'm going to tell you that I know how old you are!! And don't even try to fool me by saying: “Oh I only know because my parents listen to this music!” :)

Celebrity Birthdays: Joni Mitchell was Born on Nov 7, 1943

Today is November 7th and it's Joni Mitchell's birthday. She was born November 7, 1943. She wrote many great songs. But the lyrics that stayed with me to this day are when "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot" and "took all the trees and put them in a tree museum." It was a sad day for mankind.

A little bit of entertainment trivia.
"Got 'til It's Gone" is a song by American singer Janet Jackson, featuring American rapper Q-Tip and Canadian singer Joni Mitchell, from her sixth studio album, (1997).

Birth name:  Roberta Joan "Joni" Anderson, American but Canadian born, folk-singer, song-writer.

Salute to Music Legend and Icon David Bowie (1947 - 2016) (includes My 5 Favorite Music Videos)

In 2016, we lost music legend and icon, David Bowie (David Robert Jones (Jan 8, 1947 ~ Jan 10, 2016).  Before he departed he left us with timeless music.

David Bowie’s Blue-Eyed Soul

Looking to celebrate the life of David Bowie?

Follow this link to 700+ articles by my fellow freelance writers, ardent admirers who are passionate about the man, the music, the legend, the icon. Pages loaded with facts, trivia, etc. He has been referred to by some as the “master of reinvention”. He must have been the inspiration or role model or example for artists who seem to have been successful at reinventing themselves as well, and maintaining their long-standing position in the fickle mob world of entertainment, which is no easy feat!

David Bowie's Blue-Eyed Soul

"David Bowie might be one of the most unlikely blue-eyed (or more accurately, one blue eye and one green eye) soul singers in music history. Born in the bombed-out London neighborhood of Brixton in 1947, the pale, skinny, sometimes emaciated singer became known for his elegant, continental image and eclectic, artsy lyrics on his songs beginning in the late 1960s."

In Memory of: Aretha Franklin (1942-2018) | Music Legend, Icon and the Queen of Soul

The incomparable "Queen of Soul", Aretha Franklin, crossed over on August 16, 2018.  Another music legend has succumbed to cancer.

Ms. Franklin set the standard for all the soul sisters who would come after her and influenced many female singers and musicians such as sweet little soul sister Esperanza Spalding. Ms. Spalding was once asked to name the 5 songs by Aretha Franklin that she considered “Essential”. These were her picks:

“Day Dreaming”
“Spanish Harlem”
“Respect”
“Spirit in the Dark”
“All the King’s Horses”

These are the 5 songs that embody my memory of “The Queen Of Soul”.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Natural Woman
Chain of Fools
Spanish Harlem
I Knew You Were Waiting for Me (collaboration with the late George Michael)

Do you have a fave 5?

Throwback Music: Tears for Fears ~ Everybody Wants To Rule The World

My YouTube pick for Throwback Thursday is the original video by an awesome duo from my generation called Tears for Fears. Threw in the other video just because.

These guys held a concert in Austin, Texas in 2015; Austin Music Hall. Did not attend but was so glad to see the advertisement in the paper and to know these two brothers childhood friends were still around making their awesome music. ((I always thought they were brothers.  But I discovered later they were just good friends.)  I converted some of my kids and got them to listen to this talented duo. :)  The music of Tears for Fears is still relevant today.

You want to know a secret? It's a genuine secret. Never told this to anybody but always thought it. You see the guy with the long black hair and the curly locks?  He looks like one of my cousins.  Never told anybody because my cousin was a girl named Helen.  Kept that secret for almost 30 years.  Guess it's OK to reveal it now.  :)

In Memory Of: Prince (1958 – 2016) ~ It's the 21st century. Do Record Stores Still Exist?

If I were to sing "My Favorite Things", the song made popular by Julie Andrews in the movie "Sound of Music", the song would have to have a lyric about going to record store.  LOL. ☺ One of my favorite things that I really used to enjoy when I was growing up (from my childhood, age 10, into my adulthood when I was about 30-something) was going into a record store.

My kids can't relate to that. My older kids would find their music online and burn a CD. My younger kids would find music online and create MP3 playlists.

Do record stores still exist?

Does anybody go to record stores any more?

Evidently some people still do. Of course, you have to give people a reason to come and physically shop there. Like promise that a certain artist will be there on a certain day to sign copies of discs or vinyl record albums. Some stores offer live performances of Indie artists.  There is one record store that has a claim to fame that no other record store can boast.

Do you know the last record store that Prince visited?

Prince

Electric Fetus in Minneapolis, MN, was the last record store that the legendary American singer-songwriter-musician Prince ever visited. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  (Source: ABC News)

Another little bit of trivia about this record store? The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their third and final album, Electric Ladyland, the same year this record store opened its doors to the public: 1968.  They have no intentions of going out of business. But they do have an official website for online shopping.

So in response to the question "Do record stores still exist?", the answer is "Yes!"

Young Artists Should Rock Old Jazz Songs

think Erykah Badu should do a vintage smooth jazz album (or soft rock or slow R&B, if you prefer). Use some new material but also pay tribute to some of the jazz legends. If she has already done one (because I don't keep up with Ms. Badu), then she should do another one and ask me which songs to include.

Here is one of his recommendations. He says he'd like to her sing
“People Make the World Go 'Round” (The Stylistics ©1971 Avco Records ). This video link is a collaborative effort between two young artists, Janelle Monáe and Erykah Badu. I'm not exactly sure what this song is totally about. I just like the one RAP lyric where Janelle says “While y'all still selling dope, we'll keep selling hope!”

Favorite Music Videos : Craig David - Rise & Fall feat Sting

I have already published a post titled My Three (3) Favorite Music Videos by Sting.  This post is an add-on, so it will make four (4) favorite music videos.

I thought Craig David had vanished! To find him collaborating with Sting was an unexpected surprise. I always liked his voice. This song came out in 2014. I stumbled across this song last year (2017). That goes to show that I had completely lost track of him on the music scene. Nice collaborative effort. “Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over … It's what they call the rise and fall.”

Introduction to Classical Music ~ Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, and Tchaikovsky

Many of the famous classical music composers that we know of – Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Tchaikovsky - are no longer with us.

Popular singers, songwriters and musicians like the late Nina Simone, the late Michael Jackson, Sir Paul McCartney, and Alicia Keys have all said they draw inspiration from or have been greatly influenced by these composers.

The above is regarded by historians as the most accurate surviving likeness of Mozart, painted when the composer was 26 years old. It is a section of an unfinished 1782 portrait by Joseph Lange. The splotchy texture of the composer's cheeks, visible in the original painting on display at the Mozart Museum in Salzburg, was verified by Mozart's contemporaries. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

You heard that most music stores owners are tempted to put their classical music selections in a small room at the back of the store; however, it was just a bit of humor. The least we can do is display their masterful works – whether on the store shelves or in your home music library - in plain view so that their memory of these gifted musicians will live on.

The Health Benefits of Classical Music

There is no doubt that there are benefits to be found in many different genres of music. It can often seem to help when nothing else is able to change our mood or motivate us. For thousands of years, humans have been intrinsically linked to music in all its forms. It is part of our mourning, our celebrations, and our rituals.

Famous Italian Tenors: Andrea Bocelli

I had a roommate at university back in the 70s who was an opera major. Because of her I developed an appreciation for opera music. Because of my late husband I was introduced to the voice of Andrea Bocelli.  For a birthday gift he gave me the album Romanza.  I love it when singers known for their operatic voices cross over into the pop music genre and perform hit songs.  His blend of opera and pop is unique.

AndreaBocelli is an award-winning tenor. His singing voice has been described as “The World's Most Romantic Voice” and as “The World's Most Beloved Tenor”. Both descriptions are accurate. Another excellent description is per his official Twitter account: "His voice as easily recognised as a signature, its mellow yet powerful tones resonate from 70 million records sold."

Bocelli performs wonderfully singing solo. However, his collaborations with artists are also very impressive. In fact, his collaboration with Italian pop star Zucchero Fornaciari to sing “Miserere,” is what he put him on the music map. That song was intended to be sung by another renowned tenor, Luciano Pavarotti. Even Pavarotti was impressed with this unknown tenor's voice.

Bocelli also collaborates with artists that you would probably never pair him with. For example, Mary J. Blige is an American singer and people call her the "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul". I would have never thought that Andrea Bocelli would have collaborated with Mary J. Blige. But he did and the end result was magical! They got together and performed a duet for his Christmas album. He has also collaborated with Ariana Grande, Christina Aguilera, Jamie Foxx, and Stevie Wonder.

Andrea Bocelli was born September 22, 1958, in Lajatico, near Pisa, Italy. He lost his sight at age 12, but his lack of sight did not deter him. He attended university and studied law. He practiced law and after working as a state-appointed attorney, he made a major career change and decided to get into music. The entertainment world is very glad he did!

My Three (3) Favorite Music Videos by Sting

Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner aka “Sting” is great artist. I am a huge fan and I loved his music when he was the lead singer for the rock group Police and when he decided to embark on his solo career. One of the cool things about when he went solo was his collaboration with other awesome artists. These three (3) videos are are among my favorite music videos by Sting.  In two of these videos he collaborated with awesome singer-songwriter-musicians.

"We'll Be Together" (1987)

Why do I like this song so much?  Well for one thing it's the funky upbeat sound.  But mainly it's the video where I realized that STING CAN DANCE!!  As if he wasn't talented enough being a singer-songwriter-musician.  He can dance too??  It's true he only did a few dance moves, but they were enough to convince me that if you turned him loose on the dance floor, he could probably cut a rug!  LOL. ☺

They Dance Alone” (Cueca Solo) (1987)

Sting collaborated with Rubén Blades (full name Rubén Blades Bellido de Luna). Mr. Blades is from Panama and he is a celebrity in his own right. Although he did provide additional background vocals, it’s his speaking voice that added the additional solemnity and soberness to this song to make it hauntingly beautiful and moving.

Desert Rose” (1999)

Sting collaborated with Cheb Mami. Do you like sensual exotic things? Everything in this video is sensual and exotic. The music, the scenery, and especially the vocals of the vocals of Khélifati Mohamed, known professionally as Cheb Mami. He is an Algerian singer-songwriter and musician. According to the Encyclopeedia Brittanica, he was “a major force in the introduction of raï music to Western audiences at the turn of the 21st century”. Rai is “a type of progressive popular music that blends local Algerian traditions with various international popular genres, such as rock, jazz, and flamenco”.

Even though these songs were released before Y2K, the music videos are timeless.
